The Sewing Hack I wish I Knew Sooner

The Sewing Hack I wish I Knew Sooner

Welcome to the first post on our blog here! I am still unsure what I am going to call it, so "working title". I started this blog as a space for makers, menders, and dreamers—whether you're a seasoned sewist or just curious about making your own wardrobe. Think of this as a shared studio table: part resource hub, part creative journal, and part behind-the-scenes peek at The Sample Room! My hope is that you'll find inspiration, tips, and a little community here on your journey of making thoughtful clothing.

So let’s kick things off with something that’s completely changed my sewing life: a projector (video here!)

If you’ve ever struggled with printing, cutting, and taping patterns together (THE WORST), this post is for you. I recently installed a projector in my sewing space, and let me just say—it’s a total game changer.

I got the Magic Cube because I didn't want to spend a lot of money incase I didn't like projector sewing. I also had my boyfriend 3D print the adapter you hang the projector from your wall with! That is also here. I ended up getting a screw that was too long, as you can see in my video I have some cardboard to hold things up right for now! If you end up getting all of this, definitely get a screw that is 1/4" smaller to hold everything as tight as possible.

The best part of it all? This small upgrade has made me want to sew even more. It feels like less of a hassle to get started, which means more spontaneous creativity, more garments in rotation, and more confidence to try out new ideas. No more wrangling pattern paper. No more trimming edges. Just projecting the pattern directly onto your fabric, cutting, and getting to the fun part faster.

Whether you're here to learn new techniques, get to know the ethos behind The Sample Room, or just see what I'm up to in the studio—I'm so glad you're here :)

Let me know if you have any questions about my projector setup (or any other sewing curiosities) hoping to bring more value here to everyone within our community!
