The Sample Room was born from an idea that sustainability within apparel shouldn't solely rely on cutting consumption or using recycled polyester. Consumerism around fashion will never go away, thats just the world we live in. So how do we change the mindset of people who still want new things, but maybe they aren't actually new? How do you actually create circularity within clothing? It all starts at the design stage, and 10 years as a designer in the industry, I felt like I could do something about this.
Starting with conscious and thoughtful pattern making, we engineer a garment so that it can be easily taken apart and sewn into something new. Using all biodegradable materials & trims so everything is clean and pure, including no blends of any kind, and taking a stand against plastic.
We want to build a community of like minded apparel lovers, who have an affinity for clothing that isn't wasteful.
We're not perfect, this is a constant experiment of how we can do better, be better, and make better apparel. We are learning along the way, improving at every step.
Thanks for following us on this journey,
Meg
Meg McCullough has spent the last 10 years designing for big sportswear companies Nike, adidas & NOBULL.
Getting her start in Nike basketball, and seeing how many jerseys they tossed in landfills, she and Danielle Elsner of DECODE: Zero Waste started making garments out of these jerseys. She saw how much waste these companies were making and decided to do something about it.
